The Tooth Fairy had collected teeth for ten thousand years without a single mistake. But one night, in a hurry, she mixed up two houses. Instead of leaving a coin for little Sam, she left it for big Sam — who was a grumpy man of forty-three with a full set of teeth!
The next morning, big Sam found the coin under his pillow and laughed so hard he woke up the whole street. "A coin for a man with no loose teeth?" he chuckled. "Well, I'll take it!"
But little Sam was very sad. "The Tooth Fairy forgot me," he sniffled.
That night, the Tooth Fairy flew to little Sam's window with a bag of apology: a coin, a tiny toothbrush, and a note that said: "I am SO sorry! Even fairies make mistakes. But I never forget a child who believes in magic."
Little Sam forgave her, of course. And big Sam sent the coin back with a note of his own: "Keep it for a child who really needs it." And that's why, to this day, the Tooth Fairy always checks her map twice.
